Prelude 1: The Messenger

Juanita and Sandy had escaped their children for an afternoon of indulging their passion for Indian food. After stuffing themselves with saag paneer, saffron rice, naan and vegetable pakoras, they sank into their cups of spicy chai.

These days, time to themselves was at a premium with full time work at a printing company, three kids, and teaching metaphysical classes a couple of times a week.

Today, Sandy’s husband Richard was taking his turn entertaining the rug rats. As Juanita and she chatted about their lives, their hopes, and their spiritual experiences, Sandy found herself drifting inward into a sort of trance, no longer hearing Juanita talk.

She heard a persuasive voice say, “You must create Sanctuary. It will be a safe house for those who are spiritually awakening, a place of understanding and training. A place to experience awakening safely in the company of loving, accepting people.”

“Where’d you go?” Juanita asked, with a note of concern in her voice. Sandy was startled back into her body and blinked her eyes until she could once again focus on Juanita’s face. “Oh, I’m not sure. I heard a message from Spirit.”

Really?” Juanita leaned closer and looked more interested. “What did it say?”

Sandy told her, and they both sat trying to figure out what it meant and how best to follow the guidance. Since no new information came through, they moved on to their shopping trip before returning home to take the kids to the park.

That night after Sandy sang her usual peace songs to her kids and they went to sleep, she sat on the couch pondering the message. She began to meditate and ask questions about what to do with the info she had received earlier.

This time she heard, “It will be a very special place and much needed at this time of awakening. It’s up to you to manifest it with our help.”

Since she had been following her guidance for many years, this was nothing new for her, but with work and family, she wasn’t sure how she could make this happen. She was already exhausted at the end of the days, and hardly had enough energy even to write.

Still, she trusted that if Spirit wanted her to do this that the resources would show up to make it happen. She began looking for what she perceived would be a kind of spiritual temple. After looking at several properties, she realized that there was no way she could afford this venture with what she was making, and with her family’s money commitments.

Finally, after struggling with it for a few weeks, she surrendered it to Spirit. She had come to understand that if something does not happen, it is usually the timing that is off.

When the time is right, the ducks line up in a row.

That always seemed to be true for her, so she knew she could not “make” this happen, that only by taking action when the energy was available would it ever happen. She told Spirit, “OK, I’m willing to do this whenever it’s right, but you have to provide the place. Without more information on what you’re trying to do, I don’t know how to proceed. So, I’m giving it back to you. When it’s time, let me know, and I’ll be happy to do as you ask.” She let it go and went on with her life.
